Damn Mondays. For whatever reasons I was thinking the 190SL had one or two years with gullwing doors. Obviously, I was wrong.

This also explains why I fell asleep on the couch for 2 hours right after I posted it.

Nope, Jordan was right. It’s a 300SL. Gullwings was never an option on the 190SL.

Take your pick. The black one in the center back is the saddest. Sorry this is the only picture I have of it. It’s a 65 or 66 Valiant. It’s got a 700hp 340, full roller, fully forged, high compression, welded and ported heads. It was running last in 2002 or so. It was never meant to be a race car just built in the pro street style. It currently sits with the back half cut out of the car and is sitting on wood. The floor is cut out completely. The reason it was left this way is the owner’s cancer returned and sidelined him. The man was an extraordinary shadetree mechanic. He unfortunately passed away last year. I wish I had the money to finish it, if only to give it to his son. I think I understood the direction he wanted to take the car, but lack the fabrication skills to make it happen.

Maybe these aren’t abandoned cars. They aren’t really cars yet after all. But they might have been, and now they never will be. And that’s the saddest truth of all.
